Old Time Christmas Trail Ride!

$20 pre-registration
$25 day of the ride

In the
past, people would saddled up horses, hitch up wagons, or go walking to visit neighbors for the Christmas season.

Join us on a special 8 mile trail ride, visiting several local  homes and barns along Hammock Road in Mims.

All neighbor stops will offer seasonal treatssuch as apple cider, eggnog, ginerbread cookies and more.

 The ride is open to horses, wagons, bicycles (dirt road) and walkers.

WHR Open House & Adoption Day

An open house for people to come in, meet WHR staff and visit our Mustangs! Are you curious about Wild Horses? Interested in adopting or in the training methods used?  Come join us for the day and take part in:
  • A seminar regarding how wild horses think and react
  • A seminar regarding most effective training techniques for training and gentling wild horses.
  • Demonstration by Diane Delano working with a wild horse
  • Information table for those interested in adopting a wild horse
  • Wild Horse Yard sale to raise money for our rescue
  • BBQ platters and drink for a donation of $6.00

WHR is holding a Wild Horse Clinic for those interested in learning how to work with wild horses.


We use gentling techniques to help build a bond between you and the Mustang. Wild horses are awesome to work with but due to fear issues can sometimes be difficult to understand. We use non-aggressive training methods to help bridge those barriers.

This day of working with both wild and gentled Mustangs will enhance your knowledge and skills. The day's events will cover the following areas:
  • Body Language
  • Approach and Retreat
  • Cane Poling
  • Rope Work
  • Round Pen Logic
  • First Touch
  • Haltering
The clinic is limited to 12 participants.
Lunch will be provided for you.
Helmets are required and can be provided.
Registration Fee: $75

WHR volunteers gathered together on Saturday for a luncheon and educational seminar.  

It was a fun day to meet new people, trade horse stories, and enjoy some good food. It was great to see everyone again.

Wild Horse Gentling Clinic

WHR will be conducting a one day wild horse gentling clinic to help those who newly adopt a mustang or just want to learn how to work with wild horses, as well as domestic.  

We use gentling techniques to help build an understanding/bond  between you and your  newly adopted wild horse. Wild horses are awesome to work with but due to fear issues  can sometimes  be difficult to understand. We use non-aggressive training methods to help bridge those communication barriers.

The clinic will be limited to 10 participants and 10 auditors,  a full day of working with horses both wild and gentle mustangs to build your knowledge and communication  skills.  If you have adopted a mustang and are having a difficult time or would like for your mustang to be part of this clinic, we will allow only 2  additional horses to be brought in to participate at no additional cost.  Clinic  will include but not limited to:
  • Learning the history of wild horses
  • Body language
  • Pressure and release
  • Mirroring
  • Cane pole
  • Working with ropes to produce responsive horses, with light pressure
  • Haltering  and giving to pressure
  • leading, turn on fore hand and disengage rear end
The clinic will start at 9 am to 5 pm with a wonderful lunch included. 
Cost is $100.00 to participate and $25.00 to audit.

WHR was happy to host a visit by Girl Scout Troop 2209  "MUSTANGS".  The girls learned about Mustangs and saw a demonstration of how wild mustangs are trained.  It was wonderful  to meet these young people and hope they come back for another visit soon.
