NEWS ALERT!
September, 2009
Diane Delano, WHR Direstor
I have email to you many times over the past years with mustangs
needing homes, clinics, workshops, open house events and many other
things we do in efforts to raise money to support the wild horses that
come to our
center.....but things keep getting harder...... more and more horses
need homes, and/or a place to go....we are having a downward swing
financially with all the cost of feed, hay , care, rescue efforts and
taking in horses....we can not take
in any more and must place some now.
We have been blessed this past year with people letting us use some
land...... but now we have 4 different land places to have 14 of our 28
horses on and the cost is getting out of control.....before I am not
able to provide to them..these horses need to be placed.
We have been praying for a large land area to have for a sanctuary
setting for all of these horses but without the land our cost will be
too much once the grass is
gone and we have to buy hay again for all the horses this winter...we
grain feed all of these horse 28 of them daily....the rate of adoption
has declined in the
past year too.
I thank you all who have adopted from us and gave our wonderful horses
a home but many more are in need.....everyday I get calls or emails
about
mustangs needing to be placed.....it keeps me up at night worrying
about how to help ours, as, well as the others......so I need to step
back from doing a
rescue center for right now.
Here is a list of our horses with adoption fee
that can be reduced:
Adopted! Miley is a wonderful 2
yr filly Arab/quarter horse....she is big, beautiful, friendly and will
make a great 3 day event, English, Dressage....she has the breeding on
her sires side to be a winner and the brains to match....she was
donated to our center to help with the others who stay for a long
time.....$300.00
Pow
Wow on our web site....he was so thin and unhealthy when
he came to our center Jan.23, 2009 but now he is healthy, tame,
beautiful and will make
a great horse...due to his lack of care as a baby he will be a small
horse/pony size....will make a great child's show horse...he has the
flashy color of black and white with unique face markings...he is now
gelded, coggins and current on all shots and worming's as well as hoofs
trim....$400.00
Adopted! Rocky 19 years
young....he is a appaloosa.... full of life and loves people....great
trail horse, easy keeper, no vices....14.2 h $500.00
Osage 9 year old
strawberry roan...14.3 h Osage has been looking for the right
home....he developed slowly and has been adopted out twice before...he
is now a great horse for someone to work with, so if you are looking
for a horse to finish training... this is the horse for you....$300.00
Adopted! Mini horses
two of them.....Timmi
and Geri
are a pair to stay together....they have always been together, they are
8-10 yr olds gelding....they are yard pets
who were wild most of their life's...$200 for both
Adopted! Roxy 3 yr. mustang
strawberry roan filly who is sweet and friendly...ready for someone to
saddle train....she was a rescue at the age of 4 months old so she is
not scar from the nelgect...she is full of life and love....$300.00
Adopted! Homer 20 yr. quarter
horse gelding....in his younger days he was a ranch horse and now he is
a great mannerly kind horse who needs someone to love him and
enjoy trail rides....$500.00
Adopted! Ali-gator
our Mustang Extreme Makeover mustang mare 4
years old, she took 7th in hand course out of 38 mustangs at the Event
this past April.....she has not been
saddle trained.....her adoption fee is $25.00 now
Adopted!
3 BLM horses (Rain,
Bella and Rusty)
that came in three weeks ago....all three are three year olds, they
were adopted when they were 1 yr old and turned out in a pasture...so
they bred and one of the mares is pregnant not sure about the other
mare yet....the
colt has been gelded...all three are up to date on coggins, shots,
worming and being gentled right now....$25.00 each reassignment fee.....
Adopted! Rowdy 2 yr.
mustang/cross, Rowdy came to our center in May with his mother Sedona
she is 9 yr old mare....both were wild and under weight.....both are
being gentled, coggins, up to date on shots and worming... $300.00
adoption fee but now they are for any adoption fee/FREE to a good
home.....or another rescue center who can take either one in....they do
not need to stay together...we do
not keep them together since we weaned him from her.....
Adopted! Tiger
Lily 16 yr. plus mustang mare, who we could not leave
behind back in June....she was under weight with lost empty look in her
eyes....so we have brought back a shine in those eyes and she is
gaining weight....we worry about this type of mustang...she was adopted
back in 1995 and who knows were she has been....I can tell you by her
fears she has been short changed along the way....I pray for someone
who wants to show a sweet old soul a safe and loving place to be....no
charge.....or $150.00 if you want her current on shots and coggins....
Adopted! Gracie
22 yr. old thoughbred mare....she would love to be with another old
thoroughbred mare or gelding.....Gracie came to our center many years
ago....she
still can be riding but only lightly she is so full of spirit in the
saddle....she really would love to be loved on, brushed and cared
for....we hate to place these older horses but due to funding we are
afraid we will not be able to care for there needs either....no charge
she is up to date on shots, coggins and worming.....
These next 5 mustangs are called our
sanctuary mustangs....they all have seen abuse and this has
scar apond their hearts so much that they do not want to be touched by
humans....we would love for them to have lots of land to run on and be
free.....1 or all can go together....
Ms
Mara 14
yr. mustang mare who came to us with a fracture face and a lasso around
her neck....she is somewhat gentled but would rather be wild....she
should have never been where we found her...but the BLM sold a bunch of
mustangs to a women years ago who flooded the market with older
untrained sale mustangs
to anyone and many of MsMara herd mates have been abused also, I have
come across 18 of the 97 horses....not one of them was in a good
place...at time of being found.....
Armando 18 yr old gelding
who is the worst with trauma and fear....he would be a great
teacher.... for a program to study about energy work such as Reiki... to
help him.... if you can....help him over come a lifetime of
trauma....Armando can not even breath nomal in your presents....his
skin crawls to be touched.....
Rock is a handsome
grulla dun....10 yr gelding....he too is very close to the way Armando
is in fear....he is stuck in flight for survial
Sir
Gallant 10 yr. gelding who is blind in left eye was
adopted that way back 9 yrs ago....but Sir Gallant could never retain
training....he is a huge horse but always low in herd pecking
order....his name was Drifter when he came to our center but we renamed
him of Sir Gallant because he looked as if he could have carried a
Knight to battle......
We also have some saddles and tack for sale....we will be haveing a
barn sale in Sept.
Right now we have $39.00 in our horse account....we just had a
fundraiser two weeks ago we raised $780.00 it cost me close to $300.00
to put the event on....so we had
$480.00 which we have $170.00 left....this will be gone in less then
week on hay and feed......
I am sorry to bring this to
everyone....if anyone can help in any way....Thank you always,"

Becky and Cheyenne
Adoption Update
July 14, 2009

Before |

Now |
"I just wanted to take a minute
and thank you again for everything & give you an update on
Cheyenne.
She's
doing amazing, she's learning so much more quickly than I ever could
have imagined - and she's got one heck of a little personality on her
now! She's a big puppy dog and LOVES people, she's always the first one
to the gate when someone comes up.
I'm
already lunging her with a saddle and she knows all of her voice
commands. She's a beautiful mover and growing SO quickly! I can't thank
you enough for all that you do for these horses and for
rescuing this beautiful little girl,
she's a blessing!"
Becky
Wow, Cheyenne
looks great!
Thank you Becky
for giving her a loving home
and a new life.

Marc Chancey,
the Wild Horse
Trainer
Diane Delano
meet Marc Chancey
while both were competing in the 2009 Gatorland Mustang
Makeover.
Impressed
by his training
skills Diane began talking with Marc about horses, training methods,
and
Mustangs. She liked Marc's background and his approach to training wild
horses.
Diane began talking with Marc about training Romeo, a Mustang stallion. She drove to Georgia, met
Marc and his
family and reviewed his facilities and training methods. She decided to
place
Romeo with Marc to be saddle trained. Romeo returned home in July and
Diane was
very happy with the results.
Diane
began thinking of many
Mustangs adopted from Wild Horse Rescue who need additional training.
While
Diane is a mentor to new owners, she does not always have the time
required to
saddle train wild horses. She decided to work with Marc to help the
horses and
their owners. WHR
is now offering adopters
the option of having their horses trained by Marc Chancey with adoption
packages that include adoption fees and training as an incentive to new
owners.
More information about the
Training/Adoption packages will be listed soon on our
Adoptions page.
Letter
from Marc
Chancey:
"Horsemanship comes second nature to me because I
have never
experienced life
without horses. I have been on horses since I was born. My father was a
horseman,
his father before him was a horseman and so are my brothers. I have a
lifetime
of
working with horses and being taught by my father.
I have also had the opportunity to go and work with several other world
renowned
horseman and trainers. This helped me to polish what I had already
learned in
life
about horses and it also taught me better and more effective
techniques.
I strive to keep horses quiet. I use gentle horse training techniques
yet I am
firm enough
to establish the necessary respect and willingness that is needed in
teaching
and training horses.
I will take the horse from wherever it is when it comes to me and mold
him into
a horse
that any good rider can proud of.
He will learn to respect your space.
He will learn to look to you for guidance.
He will operate with light hands and will move off of your legs
respectfully.
He will learn to yield its front end and shoulders as well as the hind
quarters.
He will back up nicely and give you a good stop as well.
I also train cow horse and rope horses. Using cattle on
horses seems to
really get
them to thinking.
Horse training is not rocket science but it is something that one must
have in
them.
There is a certain finesse that one needs to possess to be good at the
art of
training.
There are a lot of conditioned responses in training horses. The way we
execute
these
is simply making the right things easy and the wrong things difficult.
(Difficult-not
painful or frightening). A horse learns through pressure and release.
The
timing is
crucial.
We need to remember that "What we release is what we teach". "
Marc Chancey
Fees:
- $550.00 /month-training
- $125.00-150.00/month for feed and
Hay.
Some horses need more
attention than others.
We feed a good quality hay and feed. We have just started feeding a new
feed
that
is a really good performance feed with all the needed vitamins and
minerals.
Good feed is a must especially while the horse is in training.
Additional fees:
- Special Supplements if desired are
administered at the cost of the supplement.
- Ferrier work is basically $35
trimming. $65 front shoes.
- Veterinary cost are responsibility
of owner.
- For those who want their horse just
started on cattle, there is no extra charge.
- If someone wants extensive cattle
work, I charge an extra cattle fee of $125/month.
- De-worming is basically $10 unless
special attention is necessary.
- Health certificates $25

Meet The Minni's!
Please
welcome Geronimo
and Timucua,
WHR's newest residents.
These little
boys were lucky. A breeder in south Florida
was selling her stock

fate, purchased all the horses instead, and
began seeking new homes for them.
Diane took in these two little guys, and was able to assist in
finding new homes for others.
Thank you Ellen, it was quite an feat to
save, transport,
feed, geld, and find homes for 40 stallions, mares and
foals. You
did a great job and have a wonderful heart!
Timucua
and Geronimo are currently in training
to become part of WHR's

GatorLand
Extreme
April 3-5,
2009
Ocala
Equestrian Complex
Ocala,
FL
WHR's President, Diane Delano, and Vice President Mary Alice Smith, have been
accepted into the Gatorland Extreme Mustang Makeover Event!
Please join us in offering them
our support and cheering on their efforts!
It's a challenging task.
We will be following their
progress as they work with their assigned wild mustangs. If you are curious or interested
in competing in this event, this is a great opportunity to see how the
process works.
Overview
Gatorland Extreme Mustang
Makeover is
an event where equine trainers have 66 days to train a wild
mustang to compete in a series of events:
(1) Conditioning
(2) In-hand Ground Work
(3) Riding / Obstacle course
A $10,000 cash prize is awarded
to the trainer with the best trained/gentled horse.
The
event showcases the skills of the trainer as well
as the beauty and trainability of America's wild
horse, the
Mustang. Trainers were selected through
an application process, from which only
50 trainers were chosen. The events are held around the country
but Gatorland will be the first held in the East coast.
Following
the event, the trained Mustangs will be available for adoption,
in a live bid process, offering you the chance to own a great
horse.
This event is being hosted by Lynn Palm's "Women LUV
Horses" at Ocala Equestrian Complex.
