FilmingFilmmakers from Denmark at Wild Horse Rescue Center

Mia Nielsen, Tanya Flodgraad,  and Thomas Graholy of Kontinent Film are currently filming Mustangs at WHRC. They are  making a documentary about America's wild horses.

Nielsen, a horse behavioral therapist and natural horsemanship trainer, is working with five wild Mustangs to demonstrate how wild horses behave, think, and communicate. She wants people will use this knowledge in order to create better training methods and relationships with their horses. She is also deeply concerned about the future of wild horses in America.

Diary Road Discovery CenterDairy Road Discovery Center
September 2011

WHRC hosted the children of "Dairy Road Discovery Center". It was wonderful to meet such wonderful young people, so interested in learning about America's wild horse, the Mustang.

WHRC's Community Outreach program invites children/groups from our local community to visit us, meet the Mustangs and learn their history. Our children are the future caretakers of these special horses, we want them to learn, understand, and care about them. In November WHRC will be hosting students from Astronaut High School in Titusville.
Jean and RomanJean Addison "Quiet Strength"

Jean Addison, of
"Quiet Strength", a barefoot natural trimming and hoof care service based in Scottsmoor, Fl., did a great job trimming the hooves of our Mustangs at WHRC. Jean is the owner of three rescued Mustangs and two wild Burros.

Jean
trims hooves based on the wild horse hoof model, a "Barefoot trimming that allows the hoof to wear itself according to the individual horse and is not used as a preparation trim for shoeing." She services the areas of Daytona, Orlando, Sanford, New Smyrna and down south to Melbourne.

EPIC
Epic is a Mustang Mare originally sold at BLM auction. She was rescued by Richard Kudo of ARM, at a illegal horse slaughter operation near Miami, Fl. WHRC,
working with ARM, has taken Epic in, who is preganant, until her foal is born and we place her in a wild horse sanctuary.

Wild mustangs have had a distinct relationship with Native Americans as the 1600s -1800s is dubbed the “Indian Horse Culture” by anthropologists. This is a unique opportunity to experience how the Wild Horse Rescue Center is attempting to save one of the greatest symbols of America’s Wild Heritage by rescuing and rehabilitating Mustangs for adoption and by educating the public about these Magnificent animals. WHRC will be bringing wild horse Mustangs to better facilitate this learning experience.

Wild Horse Babies

Wild Horse Rescue Center (FL), working with Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue (CA) took in 20 wild horse babies saved from kill buyers at the Paiute Horse Auction held in Fallon, Nevada. These weanling and yearlings arrived in Florida in March. We started looking for homes before the babies arrived in Florida so most have new homes now. WHRC kept five of the youngsters to train/gentle before placing them for adoption. Here's some of their photos.

Click here to view Jeanne Cloud-Nadeau wonderful music video of the babies arriving at our rescue!

Rooty's Pig Palace
Our rescued pig, Rooty, now has his very own home, the envy of all the neighborhood piglets :-) Hard to remember that just a year ago Rooty was so tiny. The runt of the litter,  we rescued Rooty after being abandoned by his mother, a wild pig, due to a problem with his front leg. He still hobbles on it but it doesn't slow him down much. Special thanks to Danny for doing such a great job on building Root
